Entrepreneurs gear up to pitch to Western Investors

Five entrepreneurs from Western University are gearing up to pitch their ventures to investors from the Western Community at Western Angels' Demo Day on November 29th.

With asks ranging from $100,000 to $2 million, the 6th edition of Demo Day will be held at the Design Exchange Toronto. Western Angels' Demo Day will include a panel discussion on investing and the current state of entrepreneurship, as well as a networking reception with additional up-and-coming start-ups from Western's entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Since its inception in 2020, entrepreneurs from across Western University have attracted over $6.3 million in funding. A number of former presenters have also been featured on programs like CBC Dragons' Den, winning lucrative deals and partnership opportunities.

Here is a summary of the five presenting teams:

Appello

Appello is a cutting-edge SaaS platform designed to revolutionize field workforce operations. Primarily catering to the industrial, commercial, and institutional construction sectors, Appello offers flexibility and customization for contractors, health and safety consultants, and more.

Appello, founded by Corey Shelson, MBA '13, and Ian Haase, MBA '10, is asking for $1-1.5 million in equity financing.


Mae

Mae is the auto industry's first-ever unbiased, guided car shopping experience, built for women, by women. Why women? Women purchase 62% of all cars and influence 85% of car purchasing decisions and yet 90% of women stated they wouldn't go to a dealership without a man.

Mae is led by Vivian Liu, BMOS'15, and is asking for $1 million via SAFE.

ecologicca


ecologicca is an IoT company that bridges the gap between your environment and your health. Our doctor-recommended hardware product changes the molecular composition of indoor air to reduce inflammation in the body, while our software system tracks your environment and your health. The venture is led by Jenessa Olson, MSc' 18, and is raising $750,000 via SAFE.


SharpStakes

SharpStakes builds gamified tools for Gen Z sports bettors. Our two core products, Algo Picksm provide mathematically profitable bets, and Sharp AI analyzes bets and recommends personalized bets, helping sports bettors find the best bets in a gamified way.

SharpStakes is led by current HBAs Shubs Kaushal, and Jaiden Sarai, and is asking for $350,000 via SAFE.

 

Step Sciences

Combining the science of sensorimotor stimuli and orthotics, Step Sciences is creating the world's premier orthotics. Our scientific approach to Human Mechanics unlocks your unique potential and aids in the recovery and correction of imperfections in your steps.

Step Sciences is led by Matt Belia, BMOS'12, and Alex Kopacz, BSc'13, BS'19, and are asking for $1 million for 5% equity.
